Wheelchairs
|
 |
The type of wheelchair you use, is a difficult decision to
make. You want something in your price range that is comfortable and
good for your posture. The chair needs speed but not at the
sacrifice of power. There is the compromise
between what works inside, outside or a combination of both.
It has to have the right width, reasonable turning circle, not to heavy but not light and
unstable. Reliability, ease of maintenance and availability of parts
are also important factors. In other words you need a custom made chair.

To make a sensible decision, try a variety of brands. I use the internet to investigate
chairs that seem suitable, select one that meets all the criteria I am looking for, then organize a test drive. Above are 2
chairs: The Roller M1 I use as my day to day chair and was bought
through GTK Rehab. The 'Wombat' is a prototype I am currently developing.

Roller M1
|
 |
At present my everyday wheelchair is the Roller M1. The M1 is an ideal
multi-purpose motorised wheelchair that can cope with the tight
confines of residential environments, yet has the strength and design
to cope with a more challenging terrain. The Roller M1 is reasonably
priced, easy to fix,
parts are readily available and their is good back-up service through GTK Rehab.
Unfortunately Roller is no longer manufacturing wheelchairs.

The M1 is comfortable, reliable, strong, has good traction and road
handling.
Improvements that could benefit the Roller M1 are:
Gearless brushless, in the wheel, electric motors
Lithium batteries
More powerful control box. (100Amp)
Headlights
