Electricity
|
 |
Traveling in an electric wheelchair and sleeping with C-PAP, I am totally dependent on electricity. Combined my bus and trailer are a self contained power station. This gives me the freedom to camp where ever I chose. Solar panels allow me to create energy without disturbing other travellers. The generator is there for emergency back-up and to run heavy equipment. The chargers allow me to charge my batteries up on mains power and the car alternator tops up the batteries when the vehicle is mobile. The inverter allows me to convert DC to AC giving me the flexibility to run AC equipment.

Solar Modules: BP
485 x 4. The BP 485 in an advanced 85Watt photovoltaic module utilising
monocrystalline
cells and anti-reflective coating. These 36 cell modules are
constructed using light-weight aluminium frames, resistant to 25mm hail
falling at 23m/s and have innovative larger high-efficiency cells,
providing superior power density. The 485s are ideal for RV's as well
as most other applications.
Mountings: Rhino-Racks.
I mount my BP Solar modules using Rhino-Racks because they are simply
the best. They are quality, light-weight, strong, user friendly, have many
different variations and look great.
Regulator: BP
Solar, GCR 3000M regulator. The GCR 3000M is a sophisticated, solar
charge controller that has a maximum charge current of 30A. It contains
a self-learning algorithm, which gives detailed information on the
battery's state of charge. It adjusts itself to the battery's age and
capacity. This regulator has a LCD display indicating state of charge,
current coming in and load
being used. All my DC load is run through the regulator except the
Inverter which is connected directly to the batteries. Regulators are
an integral part of a solar power system.
Batteries: 3 heavy
duty, deep cycle 200 amp hour truck batteries. For starting the truck I have 1 x 200 A/H
truck battery.
Generator: Yamaha generator EF2400is stored in the trailer.
Chargers: 2 x 10 Amp Arlec chargers
and the 50 Amp alternator from the bus.
Inverter: I charge my wheelchair
and run my respirator using a Dick Smith 800 watt inverter connected
directly to the battery bank.
